Upper interior of microwave and fountain soda machine dispensing nozzle, food contact surfaces, were observed to have food residue and were not clean to sight and touch. Ice machine non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.

Millers Country Market, 1140 Abbottstown Pike, Hanover, May 23. Pass. Entrance door located of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals.

Pizza Box & Hoagie Shop, 4328 N. George St. Manchester, May 23. Pass. Food slicer and can opener cutting blade, food contact surfaces, were observed to have food residue and were not clean to sight and touch.

Sweetfrog, 2071 Springwood Rd. York, Complaint, May 23. Pass. Most cupboard doors in the customer service area are broken/hinges are not holding doors in place. Cooling unit door gaskets in all areas observed with an accumulation of dust, dirt, mold like residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Observed waffle maker in the front counter area with encrusted grease and soil accumulation. Light fixtures and shades throughout the customer/customer service area observed with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris. Observed cold holding equipment, in back area, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Non-food contact surfaces throughout the facility are not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. This inspection was completed at time of facility opening for the day. Waste receptacles in the back room and toilet room are full and not covered. Old unused equipment stored in back area near manager office, should be removed from food facility. Flooring in non pubic areas of the food facility is extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning. Observed dirt, dust, debris, liquid spills etc. under all shelving and equipment. All floor drains are extremely filthy and have accumulation of black mold like residue.

Excessive coffee bean spillage in the cabinets facing the kitchen under the coffee area. Floor drain at the self service fountain area observed with black, pink and white matter and needs to be cleaned.

Perkins Restaurant, 300 Eisenhower Dr. Hanover, May 21. Pass. Food Employee observed changing tasks that may have contaminated hands without a proper handwash in-between. (DISHWASHER OBSERVED GOING FROM DIRTY TO CLEAN). Food employees observed in cook area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Microwave unit ceiling a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. (CORRECTED). Observed several ceilings vents throughout the back of house to have accumulation of static dust and dirt.

Presto Fast Italian, 2058 S. Queen St. York, May 21. Pass. Faucet at the three-compartment sink has a constant drip even once turned off, this needs to be repaired. Employee restroom observed with no covered trash can or sanitary receptacle. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Wet mop head was observed in the mop bucket in the backroom by the mop sink.

Ripped Rabbit, 2650 Eastern Blvd. York, May 21. Pass. Observed a broken cove base tile under the dish machine pre-rinse area.

Snow Barn, 125 Lightner Rd. York, May 21. Pass. Observed bags of sugar, flavored syrups and spoons stored in the bathroom. Food facility hot water heater is not producing enough hot water to supply three compartment sinks at the time of this inspection. Water was at 83°F rather than 110°F as required.

Subway, 930 Richland Ave. Suite 103, York, May 21. Pass. Ice Chute in the self service fountain area, a food contact surface, was observed to have pink slimy-residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Non food contact surfaces of all equipment and cabinets are dirty and in need of cleaning. Door handle of turbo chef oven, digital screen with food debris and in need of cleaning. 2 door reach-in cooler on the front line with black and green matter inside and needs to be cleaned. Water spray bottle in the back prep area with excessive food debris on the exterior and in need of cleaning. Food Facility has a certified person but is not on duty at all hours of operation. During time of inspection no certified person was available on site. The handwash sink in the front counter area was blocked by metal baking pans and not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected. Plumbing at the front counter is leaking from the waste pipe. This has been a repeat violation from 09/28/22 and 4/25/23. This needs to be corrected. The handwash sink in the one unisex bathroom area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air drying device. Corrected. Flooring in the back prep area under prep table, flooring in the front counter area under and behind equipment with excessive food debris, paper, lids and dirt and dust in need of cleaning. Floor drain at the three-compartment sink observed with black-matter accumulation and in need of cleaning. Dirty mop water observed from the night before still in mop bucket back and mop sink with mop sitting in water. Mops are not being hung to air dry.

Aki Japanese Restaurant, 1150 Carlisle St. Hanover, May 20. Fail. The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of the PA Food Code as evidenced by incorrect responses to food safety questions. (PH LEVELS/HANDSINK USAGE/PROPER THAWING/EATING/DESIGNATION OF PERSONAL BELONGINGS). The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. A Food Employee was observed washing their hands at the three basin sink rather than the designated handwash sink. (CORRECTED). Food Employee observed eating or tasting sushi behind the sushi bar. An open employee's beverage container was observed on stainless steel shelving containing food equipment and utensils area, a food preparation area. (CORRECTED). Food employees observed in kitchen as well as behind sushi bar area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Observed food stored directly on the floor in walk in freezer area, (four large cases of beef) rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. (CORRECTED). Shrimp and chicken observed thawing in standing water in the large stainless-steel bowl on three bay sink drying area which is not an approved thawing method. (Discussed 4 ways to properly thaw frozen food). Hood system is not adequate to remove heat and/or grease, as evidenced by condensate and/or grease collecting on the walls, ceilings, and fixtures. Walk in freezer door is severely damaged and will not seal properly and is in need of repair. Ice Chute of the beverage machine located in the waitress station a food contact surface, was observed to have blackish brown residue and was not clean to sight and touch. (CORRECTED). Observed large 5 Gallon of bleach water in hand sink located in the waitress station. The handwash sink in the sushi area was blocked by trash can and covered with large sheet pans and not accessible at all times for employee use. Exit door located in the rear area of the food facility at time of inspection was open and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Ceiling tiles missing in the main kitchen area and need replaced. Observed cell phones left on prep tables next to the main cook line. Floors and nonfood contact surfaces of equipment of the food facility is extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning. Filters of hood system have significant accumulation of static dust, dirt and grease. Above the wok area was observed to be the most. Food facility is using Bleach Sanitizer at an extremely high concentration of 200ppm, not approved in the Code of Federal Regulations for food contact sanitizing at this level. (CORRECTED).

The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair - observed toilet in women's restroom spewing water out onto the floor continually as a result of sewage back up. Floors were observed to be very stick as result of raw sewage backing up into the lobby and was not properly sanitized.

Ice chute and the self service fountain area, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Interior bottom cabinet in the cold case on the front line with standing water and food debris and needs to be cleaned. Ceiling tiles above the hood in the back prep area above ovens with static dust accumulation and in need of cleaning.
